Become the Next Camp Director
We’re looking for someone with a passion for Jesus, people, and camp ministry to become the next camp director at VCBC! If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, love people, the outdoors, living in the country, and believe God is calling you into ministry, this just might be for you.
About the Camp
Victory Center Bible Camp (VCBC) is a non-denominational, evangelical Bible camp reaching youth and families for Christ in central South Dakota and beyond.
Located in the rolling hills of Western South Dakota outside of Fort Pierre, VCBC gives campers an opportunity to experience God’s wonder in creation firsthand and to engage with others free from the distractions of everyday life.
Could You Be the Next Camp Director?
The main thing that we’re looking for is someone that is passionate about following Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and leading others to Him. If that’s you, and you love people, rural places, camp ministry, and are willing to learn and work hard, we can train you on the rest.
Our desire is to mentor the new person and work alongside you for 1-2 years, then eventually transition camp responsibility over to you completely. Some level of previous Bible schooling/training is also preferred.
Camp Director Responsibilities
As the new camp director, you would:
-
Develop a camp theme and Bible study material for each summer.
-
Teach the Bible and seek to apply Biblical principles to all areas of camp ministry.
-
Oversee operations of the camp ministry, including finances, upkeep of the grounds, food service, programs, and counseling staff.
-
Organize and develop camp brochures, camper registrations, social media promotions, etc.
-
Build relationships with local churches and para-church organizations.
-
Recruit, train, and lead camp staff/volunteers.
-
Deal with conflict using principles found in Scripture (including Matthew 18:15-17).
-
Lead and serve with humility (Philippians 2:3-5)
-
Communicate and collaborate with the board of directors, supporters, etc.
-
Seek ways to serve God with the resources He has granted VCBC (which could include retreats and seminars, in addition to the summer camps).
-
Obtain a CDL to drive the camp bus with required endorsements (preferable, but not required).
FAQs
How many weeks of camp do we usually run?
Typically 7 weeks of summer camp in June and July.
How many kids attend the camps?
About 60 kids each week, totaling 450-480 kids per summer. Imagine getting to play a part in encouraging these kids to know and follow Christ - it’s amazing. ❤️
What’s our doctrinal statement?
Great question! Here’s what we believe. If you are interested in becoming the new director, we do all need to be on the same page :)
Is this a paid position?
The current directors do additional ministry the remainder of the year and are 100% support funded. It is the goal for the new director to also be support funded as well. We realize raising support may be a new experience, and we will strive to assist you with that. The director may seek additional employment/ministry opportunities during the off-camping months.
What sports activities do you normally have at the camp?
Sports include: air hockey, foosball, pool, tether ball, gaga ball, mini golf, basketball, carpet pool, archery, 9 square in the air. Other activities include: make a craft, climb the big hill, take a hike, enjoy our beautiful sunsets and rainbows, watch the train go by, visit the camp store, compete in unique games, sing around the campfire, learn about the God who created you, enjoy the world God created for you to live in.
Off-site activities: ride the camp bus to Pierre for swimming.
